M. Harland Ison, Jr., CIC, known as Jay, was part of the Ison Insurance Agency merging in 1990 into the Thames Batré Mattei Agency. A 1974 graduate of the University of Alabama with a BS Degree in Finance and Insurance, Jay earned his Certified Insurance Counselor designation in 1988. Jay is currently Vice President-Secretary of Thames Batré. His experience covers an array of clientele with a strong background in Gulf Coast condominium associations, municipalities and real estate development. Holding a wide variety of positions, both locally and statewide, he is past President (2006) Elect of the Alabama Independent Insurance Agents, serving on their Board of Directors and Executive and Legislative Committees. In 2008 he was selected as Insurer of The Year by the Independent Agents Association. Jay was named the 2004 Recipient of the Anna S. Loding Memorial Award presented by the Insurance Women of Mobile. He is currently serving on the board of Dauphin Island Sea Lab and NEST of Mobile, an organization mentoring youth in Mobile County. Active in the Mobile volunteer community, in addition to others, Jay served as past Chairman of the Board of the American Heart Association, SE Region (2002). In 2003 Jay was named Honoree of the Mobile Chapter of the American Heart Association. In 2008, he served as the President of the Sunrise Rotary Club.
